The charity golf day, to be held at the Leeton Soldiers Golf Club, will help raise vital funds for Friends of Luro’s latest project and for Vinnies’ ongoing community support.
Friends of Luro treasurer Reece Tehan said the day is not about competition.
“You actually don’t have to be a golfer to play,” he said.
“We are trying to encourage social players, not fierce competition.”
Mr Tehan said people do not need to have a handicap and handicaps will be evened out across teams depending on the skill of each team member, to allow for a level playing field.
This is the second charity golf day the group has hosted and Mr Tehan is hopeful it will remain an annual event.
“It’s about building up our reputation and that will take some time,” Mr Tehan said.
“We will learn from this year and next year should be a bit better.”
The Friends of Luro share of the funds will go towards the transport and accommodation to allow 40 Luro villagers’ to have cataract eye surgery through the Fred Hollows Foundation.
The organisers are hoping to raise at least $500 to $600 to cover the costs.
“It is great that we have this opportunity to show the friendship we have with Luro in this very needy way,” Mr Tehan said.
There is $500 in prize money to win on the day, hearty soup at the ninth and a barbecue at the 15th.
The golf day, which will be a 12-hole Ambrose format for teams of three, takes place on Sunday at 10.30am.
Tickets are $30 per player, including fees and food.
