THE Inner Wheel Club of Leeton held its changeover dinner at the Stan Axtill Centre on Friday night, with Tonetta Fiumara taking over the mantle of president.
Mrs Fiumara was presented the chains of office by immediate past president Carol Chiswell at the dinner, which included special guests mayor Joe Burns, Rotary Club of Leeton president Robert Shore and visiting members from Narrandera, Yenda and Griffith East Inner Wheel Clubs.
Inner Wheel is the largest women’s organisation in the world, with over 100,000 members. An offshoot of Rotary, it raises funds for community organisations and the district international project, but also shows friendship, interest and concern among members.
In her report for the past year, Mrs Chiswell said it had been busy, but enjoyable.
With an international theme of “Communicate Our Vision” and an Australian theme of “Have Fun”, Mrs Chiswell felt the Leeton club lived up to both.
“I feel I know the club members and district members a lot better,” she said.
Activities over the year included a cocktail party, the cord blood research fundraising stall, Christmas party at the Leeton Musical and Drama Society production, am Italian night and catering for the Leeton Eisteddfod.
Funds were raised for many Leeton groups, including Leeton Volunteer Rescue Association, CanAssist Leeton, Roxy Theatre, Salvation Army and the Alzheimer’s support group.
“Our community service included an afternoon tea at Assumption Villa,” Mrs Chiswell said.
“We attended some wonderful district events, the highlights for me being the Narrandera brunch at the river and Yenda’s 50th anniversary lunch.”
